1 year of A-LEAF!

| February 27, 2018

Time goes by really fast! It seems like only yesterday we were kicking off the project in Tarragona, but we already celebrated our 1 year meeting a couple weeks ago in Castellón (Spain). There, Sixto Giménez, Juan Bisquert and their colleagues from the Institute of Advanced Materials (INAM) warmly received all A-LEAF partners. The event gathered over 50 attendees – another sign of the enthusiasm and collaboration that our joint project is bringing everyone involved. It was wonderful to see how A-LEAF is advancing towards its main targets, and delivering significant results – four peer reviewed papers have been published already, and some more will be published in the near future.

Check out our four published papers, all of them are fully Open Access.

During the meeting in Castellón, all partners presented their advances in the different work packages of the project. Moreover, the first design for the A-LEAF prototype was unveiled. It generated a long debate, but it was fruitful. All these scientific discussions bring us closer to our final goal – a device that will transform carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight into environmentally friendly chemical fuels.

Prof. J. R. Galán-Mascarós announced two very important upcoming events. First of all, the European Commission invited us to organise a seminar on artificial photosynthesis in Brussels, that will take place on March 15th. Also, they invited us to write a blogpost for them. Entitled ‘A-LEAF under the sun’, it was recently published here. Last but not least, Prof. Galán-Mascarós announced where our 18 month meeting will be: Darmstadt (Germany). We look forward to visiting one of the few cities in the world that can brag about having their own element in the periodic table!

Once again, we would love to thank Sixto and all the team that welcomed us in Castellón. It was a lovely meeting, and we managed to capture some of its best moments in these pictures:
